Tyler McClellan at 21 Months

It’s a brand a new year and it will be an exciting year as we welcome a new baby sister into the family and celebrate Tyler’s second birthday! So far this year Tyler has learned so many things and has entertained his mommy and daddy in so many ways!

He has learned to blow mommy kisses with his hand. He also waves using his fingers (together, apart, together, apart) and says “BYE” and “Bye, bye”. He loves to open and shut the bedroom doors and whenever he leaves, he says “Bye” and shuts the door behind him. He is doing very well at opening them too.

His new words are “book”, “milk” (that means his sippy of milk, water, or juice), “back” which means bath (and he still loves his baths), “nana” (banana- still his favorite food), “kitty”, “look” (whenever he wants us to see something he has done), “Hi” and “Bye” and “Wow” (he uses “wow” especially when he colors and when he sees Christmas lights or an airplane in the sky). He also says “Ta-tana” when he goes over to Tatiana’s house. He also says “bubble” and loves to have me blow bubbles and he tries to pop them and giggles the whole time yelling “bubble!”. He also says “ba-ball” I think that means football or beach ball and he has quite the arm. He’s almost knocked us over a few times when he tries to play catch with us. Oh I almost forgot his two favorite words, “NO” and “Ow”. He says no all day long, usually when I ask him a question. I don’t think he really understands the word because he says no to questions that any child should say yes to. Whenever he bumps his head or hurts himself, he says (while giggling) “ow” or “ouch” and rubs his head. “Uh-Oh” is beginning to be his most used word since he’s always making messes and Mommy says it a lot I guess.

One night, we amazingly got Tyler to sleep in his new toddler bed and the next morning while Mike and I were starting to get up, we heard a doorknob turn and there was little Tyler standing outside his room squinting in the light and rubbing his eyes. It was a precious moment. He is such a big boy! We haven’t had much success since then at getting him to sleep in his “big boy bed’ but we’re trying.

His newest favorite thing to do is to color. For Christmas he got some crayons and a Barney coloring book. Since then, he colors every day and loves it. He makes little marks on the paper, looks up at us, grins and says “wow”. He also has learned how much fun it can be to color on the walls and Mom is trying to teach him not to. He loves to have someone right there beside him to watch him color or to color with him. If you are sitting a little ways away, he’ll come over to you, take your finger and lead you over to his coloring book and make you sit down and color with him. It is so cute but mom is having a hard time sitting on the floor now that the baby girl is getting so big.

He also is quite the little dancer. We’ll turn on the radio and he will go crazy dancing! He jumps up and down, swings his arms, takes big steps, runs around in circles and giggles and laughs. It is so cute and very entertaining! He also will sometimes “lead” the music with his arms or hands (usually in the car).

Did I mention yet that Tyler gets into everything? He loves to get into the dirty laundry and puts our garments over his head and walks around blind. When he takes baths, he’ll reach into the hamper and put dirty clothes into the water!

He is really loving TV. His favorite shows are “Elmo’s World”, “Tele-Tubbies”, “Rolie-Polie-Olie” and “Veggie-Tales” to name a few.

Tyler has also learned how to pray! (Well, he knows how to fold his arms, bow his head, and babble) Last Sunday during Sacrament meeting, during a couple of the prayers, he folded his arms bowed his head and even followed with a loud “A-MEN.” The people behind us chuckled and Mike and I were so proud. He is still, however, a terror during sacrament meeting and Mike and I are getting frustrated and losing hope that he will ever sit quietly through the meeting! He is so busy and never slows down for a second! I sure hope he settles down as he gets older and that the baby girl isn’t as hyper as he!

He also loves to talk on the phone. All day long, he picks up the phone, says “Hi’, babbles for a few seconds, says “Bye” and then hangs up the phone. Once in a while he’ll have a conversation with his daddy or one of his grandparents on the phone. Most of his side of the conversation goes like this, “uo-oh”, “wow”, “uh’oh”, “bye”. And then he hangs up. We love this little boy so much and every day we discover another reason why we do! .
